From yarning Captains to SOPA and 270g of life

This week taught us that some people  accidentally fall into life boats, while the internet scares some politicians so badly that they desperately try to censor it. Besides, terror threatens Africa, while a charismatic skier ends his career and baby Melinda teaches her doctors a lesson. Last but not least even some of Hollywood´s dream couples split up…

Worldwide SOPA/PIPA Protest

On Wednesday more than 7000 websites including Wikipedia went black in order to protest against the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA). Both anti-piracy acts had been vividly discussed as opponents reckon they would give the government powerful censorship tools that could threaten free speech. Since the web protest generated more online discussion than last year´s Super Bowl, many congressmen started to rethink their attitude toward both Acts.

With the increasing number and frequency of the terror attacks, Nigeria might be on the road to a civil war…

After having announced to retire at the end of the World Cup season, the charismatic 37-year-old Swiss downhill star Didier Cuche won the Kitzbuehel downhill race for the fifth time in a row. Congratulations Didier =)

270g of Life – Third smallest baby released

On Friday, Melinda Star Guido, the world´s third smallest surviving baby, who was born last August, 16 weeks early, was finally released from hospital weighing more than four pounds. At birth, Melinda only weighed 270 grams (9.5 ounces) – the same as two iPhones. The baby girl was taken home by her proud parents after having spent five months in the a neo-natal intensive care unit at the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.

There are some coulpes among Hollywood´s top stars you would never ever imagine splitting up. But in the end, they are no other than anyone of us… Apparently, German  supermodel Heidi Klum will file divorce from singer Seal in Los Angeles next week. The couple has been married for almost seven years. I guess Hollywood is lacking another dream couple…
