Man Lacking Limbs Swims From Alaska To Russia

44-year-old Frenchman Philippe Croizon, whose limbs had been amputated  after an electrical accident 18 years ago, completed the 4 km (2.5 miles) swim from Alaska to Russia in 1h 15 min.  Croizon used paddle-like prosthetics to swim in the 4°C (=39° F) cold water. Before his Bering Strait adventure, he had already completed crossings of the English Channel, the Red Sea and other major waterways. Trogloraptoridae – A New Spider Species Discovered In US Caves

The spider, that measures up to 5 cm across, was found in caves in Oregon and California. It is a spider so evolutionarily special that it represents not only a new genus and species, but also a new family – Trogloraptoridae. The name translates into “cave robber” due to the animal´s impressively big claws and feet.
